Due to some recent changes we’ve had at Studio East and the resulting reduced staffing, we have decided to take a look at all of our internal programming to make sure that we are using our resources in the best way possible. As such, we have made the difficult decision to pause on our upcoming 2024-25 StoryBook Theater season.
This pause will provide us time to evaluate all of our programming and make sure that we are bringing our students, families and patrons best-in-class theater performance and educational opportunities. It will also allow us time to expand and restructure our StoryBook show offerings to include themes that reflect more cultures and topics to best serve the needs of our evolving audience. We will be relaunching our StoryBook touring program in the 2025-26 season, with brand new sets, costumes, shows, stories and structure. All 2024-25 season tickets purchased will be refunded within the next few days.
We look forward to keeping you updated about this journey, so stay tuned with us here at Studio East for upcoming information. For our StoryBook families, if you don’t already, we encourage you to follow our Studio East Facebook, Instagram and TikTok accounts for the latest programming information.
In the meantime, we have two wonderful opportunities this fall especially designed for family fun, and for young audiences. First, Studio East’s mainstage production of The Phantom Tollbooth, based on the book by the same name, is a family-friendly musical presented by some of our fabulous mainstage students. These shows will be taking place on two weekends in October, with performances in the mornings and early afternoons to accommodate our young audiences. The book is a fourth-grade level reading book, but the show can be enjoyed by students from four and up.
Additionally, November 16th and 17th will be Studio East Family Fun Weekend at the Kirkland Performance Center. This event will include a sing along and a sharing of a new musical we’re considering as a future Storybook show. We’d love for you to come, and tell us what you think!
Details and tickets for the KPC weekend event will be available on our website soon.
Finally, we would like to thank Premera Blue Cross for their longstanding support of Studio East and StoryBook Theater, ensuring all students have the opportunity to experience a StoryBook school show. While StoryBook Theater is on pause this season, we are honored to have Premera Blue Cross’s continued support to help underwrite the cost of in-school and after-school theater programs.
As always, if we can provide any further information or clarification, please contact us at [email protected].
Thank you,
Carolyn Agan
