Interns & Volunteers

Ongoing opportunities are available to help out at Studio East!  Contact the office to be directed to the staff person who might best be able to use your skills.  We are currently looking for an Education Intern for 2011-12:

The Education Intern will assist the Education Director and Registrar in ensuring the success of our performing arts instructional programs.  Key functions include preparation of classroom materials and assisting in classrooms in addition to other general administrative duties. This position has the potential for extra projects for interns that have interest and show initiative.

Duties may include:

  • assisting Teaching Artists in class/camp
  • creating and updating resource lists, databases and handbooks
  • internet and phone research projects
  • formatting and compiling data from program evaluations
  • updating website and social media sites
  • organizing, labeling and inventorying class materials
  • formatting, photocopying and organizing electronic documents

 

Successful applicants will have a demonstrated interest in the performing arts and working with young people.  Applicants should be interested in working in a relaxed office setting and learning skills which can be applied to future administrative positions.  Basic computer skills required.  Flexibility, communication and organizational skills, sense of humor, attention to detail and patience needed.
High school and college students are encouraged to apply, especially students wishing to use their experience at Studio East to earn school credit.  A regular schedule of 6-8 hours per week for 12+ weeks is desired.  Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer positions are available for 2011-12.

This is an unpaid position.  Tickets to Studio East and StoryBook Theater performances are available.

Theater Teachers and Directors

Studio East welcomes resumes from Teaching Artists who are interested in joining our faculty.  We hire energetic, responsible Theater Arts educators who have teaching, directing, choreographing or music directing experience with young people ages 3-18.  We are interested in Teaching Artists with several years of teaching/directing experience who love sharing their skills and experience with kids.  Trained educators, actors with teaching experience and pianists are encouraged to apply.  Projects include:

  • Instructors for daytime and after school/evening classes, both on site at Studio East and at Eastside area schools
  • Directors/Musical Directors/Choreographers for after school/evening productions, both on site at Studio East and at Eastside area schools
  • Directors/Musical Directors for school Break Camps in February and April at Studio East and during the summer months at various Eastside locations

Class and Camp Assistants

Students age 12 and older are invited to apply to be Work Study Interns assisting camps and classes.  Interns earn tuition credit for Studio East programs.  Ideal candidates are current Studio East students who are confident and mature, with some experience working with younger children in leadership roles.  Assisting positions are available in our Homeschool and After School class programs as well as Mid-Winter and Spring Break Camps.

Students with advanced dance experience are encouraged to apply for our Intern Choreographer positions in our ArtReach! program.  Interns earn tuition credit for Studio East programs by working with our professional Directors at local elementary schools to produce full length musical productions.  Interns must commit to at least two projects during the school year, participating in 20-25 hours of rehearsals during each 6-week project.

Starting in January we hire our paid Summer Camp assistants.  We look for Studio East-trained teens with advanced theater experience, such as YAPI, who love to work with large numbers of children.  Applicants for paid positions must be at least 15 years old and be able to work at a different Eastside location every one or two weeks.  Positions include assistants for the Studio’s Teen Camps, Summer Stage, TaleSpinners, Playmakers and Little Players camps.  Work Study and volunteer opportunities are also available for students under the age of 15.

Priority in placement is given to students currently active in Studio East programs.
