Skills Camp Entering 3rd-5th Grade

Each Skills week at Studio East features different classes. Spend a week taking a deep dive into a specific performing arts skill that range from camera work, to onstage skills, to backstage options. At the end of the week, show off your knowledge with an informal performance, fully-edited video, or portfolio of work.

Daily Activities

  • Skill-building through games and exercises
  • Solo and group projects to stretch and strengthen skills

Skills Developed

  • Skills camps are focused on building the skill in the camp title:
  • Improv & Stand Up will focus on improvisational skills such as thinking on your feet, working as a team, comedic timing, and taking risks.
  • Broadway Boot Camp will focus on musical theater skills such as acting technique, singing technique, dancing technique, and how to combine the three to enhance performance.
  • Costume Design will focus on creative design skills, costuming from pre-built clothes vs. creating something from scratch, and hard skills like sewing, drawing, & crafting.

Summer Stage Camp Entering 4rd-6th Grade

Summer Stage theater camps give 4th – 6th graders the chance to rehearse and perform in a fully-staged musical or play, as well as participate in a variety of focused skill-building workshops and games. These shows are designed so that every participant has a part and a moment to shine. The two-week structure allows students more time to dive into acting and performance skills and rehearse a longer, more detailed play than they would in a one-week camp. Two weeks is still a short time to put on a play so this camp is best for students who are open to memorization work at home.

Daily Activities

  • Acting games, mini-workshops, and rehearsing scenes
  • Learning lines, songs, and choreography
  • Using formal stage skills during the rehearsal process

Skills Developed

  • Theatrical skills: character development, ensemble, movement, and performance
  • Musical skills: rhythm, pitch, tone, ensemble singing, vocal production
  • Life skills: following directions, teamwork, confidence and risk-taking
Emerging literacy skills through storytelling and scriptwriting
