Studio Intensive

Studio Intensive is a year-long training program for young actors aged 10 to 19, offering high-level training in theater arts. Our core classes meet Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Studio Intensive is a supportive program for passionate theater students who want to build their skills and confidence on stage. Because we expect our Intensive students to already have a solid understanding of theater skills, this is an audition-only program.
Students can join for a single quarter or continue year-round to deepen their skills through personalized instruction. Based at Studio East, the program features expert-led training in acting, voice, and movement, with a curriculum designed to evolve continuously, ensuring that returning students face new challenges and opportunities throughout their journey to graduation.

Auditions

Rolling video auditions are open for Winter and Spring Intensive cohorts!

Video Audition Resources

1. Example Audition Video

This video includes an intro, tutorial, demo with counts,  and demo from the front with music. Feel free to use this as a template for your own audition!

The whole combination is eight 8 counts and runs just over 30 seconds long. It’s intentionally a bit challenging to set the tone, so don’t worry if you don’t get it perfect. Give it your best shot!

2. Music Tracks

  • Here is a clean track you can use to record your video with.
  • If you want to practice it slow and then gradually get faster, use this link for the ability to change the music’s playback speed.

How to upload to an unlisted YouTube:

  • Go to youtube.com
  • In the top right corner, click create, then upload video
  • Select the file you would like to upload
  • Title the video using the naming convention of StudentFirst StudentLast Name Intensive Audition Video (i.e. Kaysy Ostrom Intensive Audition Video)
  • Click next, skip step 2, and go to step 3 (visibility)
  • Select unlisted
  • Copy the link and put it into your audition form
  • Now only those who click on the link will be able to see it.
  • Please leave the video up until you’ve been contacted regarding acceptance to the program.

Classes run Saturday mornings, from 9 a.m – 12 p.m.

Our expectation is that students attend as many classes as possible. Absences not only impact the learning of the individual student, but also their classmates as theater is an ensemble-based craft. Repeated lateness or absences could result in losing your spot in the cohort. Those decisions will be made at the discretion of the Education Director and Intensive Coordinator. Should absences be unavoidable, please contact and Education Director Kaysy Ostrom and Intensive Coordinator Kim Douthit.

WINTER: January 10 – March 21 (no class on Feb 14th)

SPRING: April 4 – June 13 (no class May 23rd)

Faculty & Curriculum

Students rotate between three performing arts classes each Saturday with a focus on acting, voice, and movement. Each quarter, we shift the class focus based on student experience and interest. The rotating schedule provides variety of content for returning students. Additional specialty curriculum is offered as one day workshops throughout the year from industry professionals. After auditioning, each student is assigned a group. Each group may work on different curriculum in each content area.

Our instructors are incredibly experienced and professional in their craft. Our teachers are also currently working as local actors, directors, teachers, musicians, and more.

Our core teachers are:

  • Kim Douthit – Acting Teacher
  • Helen Roundhill – Movement Teacher
  • Olivia Pedroza – Vocal Teacher

The schedule looks something like this:

9:00-9:05 – Check in and Announcements
9:05am – 10am – Acting Class
10am – 10:05am – Passing Period
10:05am – 11am – Voice Class
11am-11:05am – Passing Period
11:05am-12pm – Movement Class

If tuition is a barrier to entry, please fill out our tuition assistance application. Studio East Training for the Performing Arts is committed to ACCESS to ALL and we never want financial hardship to prevent a child from experiencing the transformative power of the performing arts.
