Have a blast this summer, make new friends and learn all about theater in Studio East camps for 3rd through 6th graders. Want to rehearse a full production in two weeks? Choose a Summer Stage camp. Want to create your own script and bring it to life on stage? Choose a PlayMakers or Change It Up camp.  Want to learn and practice lots of different theater skills like acting, improv, or stage combat?  Drama Medley’s the camp for you.  Better yet, try them all!

The chart below lists all summer camps for Grades 3-6.

 Grade refers to a student’s placement in Fall 2020.

Extended Care (EC) is available for PlayMakers and Summer Stage camps from the end of camp until 5:30pm. There is no Extended Care on the final Friday of camp. To register for Extended Care, use the camp code ending in EC.

PlayMakers (Grades 3- 5)

Put your amazing ideas into action as both playwright and actor! From creating characters, to writing dialogue, to the final performance showing off their acting skills, young performers will have a blast in this creative acting camp! Extended Care (EC) is available for all PlayMakers Camps.

Daily Activities

  • Ensemble building and play creation activities based on the weekly theme
  • Acting games, creating props, script writing, and rehearsing scenes
  • Practicing stage skills during rehearsal process

Skills Developed

  • Theatrical skills: character creation, ensemble, improvisation, and performance
  • Life skills: following directions, teamwork, confidence, and risk taking
  • Strengthen literacy skills through storytelling, reading and script writing
  • Body language, gesture, facial, and vocal expression

Final Presentation

  • 3:00pm on the final day of camp.
  • 30-50 minute family showcase at 3pm on the final day of camp.

Drama Medley (Grades 1-6)

Drama Medley is a week-long acting skills camp with a fun selection of theater classes. Each week of Drama Medley camp offers something different. Classes may include musical theater, improvisation, dance, stage combat, acting technique, and so much more. Students will showcase their new skills in a brief presentation for parents on Friday afternoon. Extended Care (EC) is available for all Drama Medley and Studio Day camps.

Daily Activities

  • 6 hours of instruction daily by professional Teaching Artists
  • A variety of performing arts skills will be explored.
  • Acting games and exercises, singing, and dancing

Skills Developed

  • Theatrical skills: character creation, ensemble, improvisation, and performance
  • Life skills: following directions, teamwork, confidence, and risk taking
  • Literacy skills through reading scripts
  • Body language, gesture, facial, and vocal expression

Final Presentation

  • 3:30pm on Friday at the camp venue
  • 30-40 minute family showcase at

Summer Stage (Grades 3- 6)

Summer Stage theater camps give 3rd – 6th graders the chance to rehearse and perform in a fully-staged musical as well as participate in a variety of focused skill-building activities. These musicals are designed so that every participant has a moment to shine! Extended Care (EC) is available for all Summer Stage camps.

Daily Activities

  • Acting games, mini-workshops, and rehearsing scenes
  • Learning lines, songs, and choreography
  • Using formal stage skills during rehearsal process
  • Scripted musical production
  • Campers have individual roles, memorized lines, and staged performance.

Skills Developed

  • Theatrical skills: character development, ensemble, and performance
  • Musical skills: rhythm, pitch, tone, ensemble singing, and vocal production
  • Life skills: following directions, teamwork, confidence, and risk taking
  • Body language, gesture, facial and vocal expression

Final Presentation

  • 1:00pm and 3:00pm on the final day of camp at the camp venue. Campers must attend both performances.
  • 45-60 minute performances with costumes and props at 1pm and 3pm on the final day of camp.
  • Campers will be released at approximately 4:30 on the final day.

Change It Up (Grades 6- 10)

Students create and perform a world premiere in one week! We’ll take a popular book, television, or film series and change it up to make it our own. We will twist the story and the characters all under the direction of professional theater artists. Then, after rehearsing our original script, we’ll premiere it on the final day of camp for our family and friends!

Daily Activities

  • Ensemble building and play creation activities based on a book or book series
  • Acting games, creating props, script writing, and rehearsing scenes
  • Practicing stage skills during rehearsal process

Skills Developed

  • Theatrical skills: character creation, ensemble, improvisation and performance
  • Life skills: following directions, teamwork, confidence, and risk taking
  • Literacy skills through reading and script writing
  • Body language, gesture, facial and vocal expression

Final Presentation

  • Final Presentation: 3:00pm on the final day of camp at the camp venue.
  • 40-50 minute family showcase

Extended Care is available for all PlayMakers and Drama Medley camps from the end of camp until 5:30pm, Monday through Thursday. For Summer Stage camps, Extended Care is also available on the first Friday. There is no Extended Care on Fridays after performances.

Space is limited. After camp activities include games, craft projects, and free play.

Extended Care for PlayMakers and Summer Stage camps will take place at NUU.  Summer Stage campers will be escorted across the street by camp staff.

Drama Medley Extended Care will take place on site at Studio East.
