After School Classes
Spring After School Classes are open for enrollment!
LWSD Parents our spring 2:30pm Wednesday classes will not meet on: May 3 and May 31.
Avoid disappointment and register early! Classes with low enrollment may be cancelled up to two weeks before their start date.
Our Quarterly Theater Class program offers Fall, Winter, and Spring sessions, each 8 weeks in length. We also offer a 6-week Mini Winter Session between Fall and Winter. We offer acting, dancing, and singing classes with a variety of themes and focuses for preschool through high school students.
If you have an idea for a class that you do not see offered, contact the Education Director – if you have at least six students and we have the space and the Instructor, you can create your own class!
All classes are listed by grade level. Exceptions are only made by permission of the Education Director.

In this intermediate level tap dance class students will improve upon their tap training and go beyond the basics. The class aims to give students more confidence and refine their technique. We’ll focus on skill building and learning a few musical theatre routines. On the final day of class we’ll share our skills with family and friends in a final presentation.

Love the sketches on Monty Python and Saturday Night Live? Learn how to create sketches like the pros. In this 8 session course students will learn and practice long-form improv. As a group they will create sketches that are connected by story, character, or theme. Students will increase their teamwork skills, listening abilities, and overall confidence. Previous Improv experience is highly recommended but not required.

The physical comedy you see on stage is often the most fun for the audience, and the actors! But all that fun comes after a lot of practice. In this hilarious class, young actors will learn the basics of unarmed stage combat by learning to fall, punch, kick, pull and even bite safely. Then we’ll create our own comedic scenes and learn how to use our voices, bodies and faces to tell hysterically funny stories!

Learn the singing skills necessary to perform in musicals! Geared for students who want to study voice, but are not ready to commit to private singing lessons; this small class is perfect for the aspiring performer. Students will study musical terms, singing techniques, and explore their voices through group songs and solos from Broadway and movie musicals. At the end of the session students will confidently sing solo for families and show off what they’ve learned!

Acting II is an intermediate level acting class. This class builds upon basic acting skills and challenges students to take their acting skills to the next level. Learn to analyze text for beats, subtext, character motivations, tactics, playable actions, and given circumstances. Learn to give and take constructive criticism. On the final day of class, we’ll have an informal showing of class work. Students must have completed Acting I or recieve permission from Education Director, Kristina S. Have fun with the exciting world of improvisation! Beginning students will learn to think fast on their feet, work as an ensemble, create stories and perform improv in front of others. We will learn to take risks and not be afraid to fail. Each week we’ll focus on a different aspect of improvisation. Our class will end with a final presentation for our family and friends!

This beginning acting class will provide students with the tools they need for a strong foundation in acting. Tap and jazz are important skills for students interested in musical theatre to learn. In this class students will learn the basics of tap and jazz, focusing on pairing basic tap and jazz terminology with their respective steps, learning a musical theatre routine, and giving students confidence in their skills. On the final day of class we’ll share our skills with family and friends in a final presentation.

This is an on camera class for beginners interested in exploring the world of TV and film acting. This is particularly good for students who have acted on stage, and want to make the transition to on camera. Students will jump into a new Magic Tree House story every week bringing thrilling tales to life! Through art, games and storytelling, students use their imaginations to travel into the world of the story; becoming the characters and solving problems together, all while gaining the confidence needed to be in front of an audience and learning beginning theater skills. On the final day of class, we will present our own Magic Tree House tale for our friends and families.
